After all of the excruciating painful work to excise this cancer from the Archdiocese of Louisville over a decade ago, I was saddened to learn over the weekend, as reported by the Courier-Journal, that Father Stephen A. Pohl of St. Margaret Mary Church, is being investigated due to “inappropriate photos of children that have been taken and collected by Father Pohl to determine if he has possessed or distributed child pornography.”
In 2003, I worked on behalf of 240 victims of priest sex abuse to settle lawsuits against the Archdiocese of Louisville for $25.7 million and to put protections in place to identify priests who are a threat to children. Obviously there is much more work to be done to protect the children within the Catholic community and the community as a whole.
