'Begin to heal'
I feel I must respond to the letters of praise written for Archbishop Thomas Kelly a few weeks ago. One letter writer describes him as "showing support for people who are vulnerable."
Who is more vulnerable than an innocent child in the hands of a trusted, well-respected Catholic priest? Where was he then? . . .
Why did he not act quickly to protect all children who might be preyed upon in the future? Why did he act instead to cover up and protect the guilty priest? Why did he act instead to cover up and protect the guilty priest? What kink of example does this set for all other priests?
Another writer described him as "extremely popular and well thought of by his flock."
Maybe this is part of the problem. I feel quite different about our archbishop.
I have three children in the Catholic school system, and I do not feel comfortable with Kelly as our leader, and I can't believe I am in the minority.
Ask yourself why Louisville alone has 215 lawsuits involving 40 current or past priests. Why are practicing priests still being removed or accused today?
Are we to believe the abuse by Father Thomas Creagh that was brought to the attention of the archbishop was an isolated incident. I believe it is becoming quite clear that it was not.
It is very disturbing to read story after story of abuse and cover up . . . I feel we are obligated as Catholics to demand the resignation of Kelly so we can begin to heal and move to the future with a positive new start.
